Access to books and other printed contents has been one of the most critical issues with which the blind and visually impaired undergraduates in the state universities of Sri Lanka have been battling for decades. Out of the approximately estimated 800,000 visually impaired persons in Sri Lanka, only as few as 200 youngsters annually get the opportunity to get enrolled in state universities and obtain higher education. Even then, most of them could not perform up to their full potential and excel in their respective academic fields due to the unavailability of information that must be obtained with the aid of accessible books particularly in Sinhala medium.
In order to address this issue, Enable Lanka Foundation together with the Rotaract Club of University of Sri Jayawardene and with the first mobile audio book production company in Sri Lanka, with the view to introducing the fully accessible mobile application called LISN which is an application specifically designed to read audio books even in Sinhala medium launched the first Phase of the LISN පෙරළිය/ Revolution on 19 Novemeber 2016.
Samsung Sri Lanka and the U.S. Embassy Colombo, Sri Lanka were the main sponsors of the event.
